Dermot Lynch Utter rubbish. How can you make something that should be so simple, so frustrating? Click on download "Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Microsoft Word" and you get taken to a window that wants you to download Internet Explorer 8. Spend ten minutes looking around that window and trying different links and buttons to try and get the add on download required and end up totally frustrated when it should have been so simple to do. Why are Microsoft so good at making the simple so complicated, frustrating and leaving one with the sense of total inadequacy. Nothing has changed over all the years. When you get to the point of needing to contact Microsoft either for Techincal help or for software requirements, one always seems to end up short shifted. Either you get fobbed off by the technical staff who want to blame 3rd party software for your problems or want you to reinstall your operating system or when requiring software, wanting to shove software down your throat which shouldn't even be out of the Beta stage. I refer to Explorer 8 which has caused so much grief. As far as technical, many a time I have been told to reinstall the ops system or that the problem is 3rd party related, yet upon further searching have found solutions that required neither a reinstall, nor were related to anything other than the ops system settings. This time the issue is a simple viewer that I wanted to download so that I could look at my boy's homework which he has done in Works on my computer which runs Office. Instead I end up at the point of frustration where I don't want to download Explorer 8. All I want is to be able to click the download button, which I did, and get the necessary file. Am I frustrated, annoyed, upset and totally exasperated? Yes. Otherwise I wouldn't be writing these comments here now. Since I have been driven to this point I am now venting my pent up frustrations on this and other Microsoft matters. I won't even go to the issue of Automatic updates as I am sure there must be a character limit here that I would undoubtedly reach if I were to start venting my frustration on that subject.
